Nonfinite clause

Çekimsiz fiil tümcesi

Jean Pascal

NONFINITE is a term used in contrast with FINITE in the classification of verbs, verb phrases, and clauses. A NONFINITE clause is a clause whose verb is a NONFINITE verb phrase. A verb phrase is NONFINITE if the first or only verb is NONFINITE. In English, only infinitives and participles are NONFINITE. In Turkish, all verbals (action nominals, participles, and converbs) are NONFINITE. A NONFINITE clause can constitute only a dependent sentence: (EN) [Having worked] all day, Mara fell asleep early. / (TR) Bütün gün [çalıştıktan sonra] Mara erkenden uyuyakaldı.
